Poetry
| I've been
thinking a bit about how to write this as poetry bores most people to tears... I was taught some poetry back in school and it always bored me to tears too. The only one that ever caught my attention and has followed me in my memory throughout life was "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll. Then one night a several of years ago whilst camping with friends on the Murray River, a dear friend, Roy (whom I affectionately call "Superman") came out and recited a poem called "Mulga Bill's Bicycle" by "Banjo" Paterson. It so captivated me that I was inspired to memorize some poetry too. I still often ask Superman to say Mulga Bill (and it makes me feel like a little kid asking for storytime!) LOL To date, I have memorized the following: |
Jabberwocky - Lewis Carroll
Matilda Morgan - Cyril Fletcher
My Country - Dorothea McKellar
The Man From Snowy River - "Banjo" Paterson
Been There Before - "Banjo" Paterson
Wigegoara Joe - W. Tully
Shearer's Nightmare - Anonymous
Cremation of Sam McGee - Robert Service
Ballad of the Drover - Henry Lawson
Jim's Whip - Barcroft Boake
Clancy of the Overflow - "Banjo" Paterson
Moderation - Victor Daley
Geebung Polo Club - "Banjo" Paterson
"I've Been Everywhere" - Geoff Mack, Sunny Cowgirls style! (although it's sung and these are technically lyrics and not a "poem", I did go through a bit of time and effort to memorize this one, so I list it with pride)
